Private pay or paying out of pocket may be an option if you need home care services but don’t qualify for a government insurance program, if you don’t have private insurance, or if you desire more services than these programs cover.
For those clients and families who pay privately for their services, we accept payment by check, credit card, or wire transfer or, we can initiate recurring automatic credit card payments or ACH withdrawals from your bank account. Paying out-of-pocket gives you greater flexibility in the type and amount of services you order. |
Whether provided by an employer or purchased individually, LTC generally provides specific dollar payments for insured persons who require assistance with activities of daily living. Policies vary in terms of how much assistance is covered, and by benefit amounts. Be sure to check with your provider to verify that your plan covers what you think it does.
Many long-term care insurance policies provide for non-medical home care services to assist with the activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, toileting, ambulation, and feeding. You’ll need to check if your policy covers direct payment or reimbursement for these types of services. |

Unfortunately, this program is not available statewide. It is open to residents of the following towns and cities: Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Derby, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Meriden, Milford, New Haven, North Haven, North Branford, Orange, Oxford, Seymour, Shelton, Wallingford, West Haven and Woodbridge. This program does not have an age requirement. |
The Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders (CHCPE) is designed to assist aging Connecticut residents who are at risk of nursing home placement. The goal is to allow qualified seniors who require medical and personal care to remain living at home instead of being placed in a skilled nursing facility. This program also permits individuals to reside in adult foster care, as well as some assisted living residences. A variety of other services are provided to seniors as determined necessary by a health screening process and by their choice of residence.
Program administration is under the Connecticut Department of Social Services, Alternative Care Unit. |
What Are Aid and Attendance Benefits?
Aid and Attendance is a benefit paid by Veterans Affairs (VA) to veterans, veteran spouses or surviving spouses. It is paid in addition to a veteran's basic pension. The benefit may not be paid without eligibility to a VA basic pension. Aid and Attendance is for applicants who need financial help for in–home care, to pay for an assisted living facility or a nursing home. It is a non–service connected disability benefit, meaning the disability does not have to be a result of service. You cannot receive non–service and service–connected compensation at the same time. |
